Dating Red Flags: What We Learned from the Tinder Profile That Wasn't Deleted

Introduction

In today’s world of digital dating, we all have our moments of confusion, awkwardness, and downright funny mishaps. Jay and I recently experienced one of those moments when we realized he hadn't deleted his Tinder profile — despite us being together for a few weeks already!

We were in Maine, shooting a music video, and needed a model for the shoot. Maine, however, isn’t exactly overflowing with professional modeling agencies like Los Angeles. In our desperate search for talent, we stumbled upon Jay’s Tinder profile, which he hadn’t deleted yet. Naturally, I was a little surprised. “Were you still using it?” I asked, raising an eyebrow. Jay insisted it had just slipped his mind. Apparently, he had set it to ‘vacation mode,’ which stops people from seeing your profile but doesn't delete it. A technicality, I suppose!

This got us talking about red flags in relationships. Was it a red flag that Jay hadn’t deleted his profile? For some, it might be. For me, it was just an honest mistake, and I knew nothing shady was going on. But it’s moments like these that can lead to bigger conversations about trust and communication in dating.

Here are a few other common dating red flags we’ve noticed from our own experiences and from others:

  1. Too Pushy on the First Date: If someone invites you to their place on the first date, it's usually a sign they’re not looking for anything serious. It’s important to feel safe and respected, so if this happens, it might be time to reconsider.

  2. Text-Only Relationships: When someone keeps cancelling or pushing back plans, stringing you along with endless text conversations but never actually meeting up, it’s a sign they’re not committed. If they flake more than twice, it’s a major red flag.

  3. Messy Car, Messy Life: This might sound superficial, but if someone’s car or personal space is a complete mess, it often reflects how they handle other areas of their life. Organization (or lack thereof) can be a glimpse into their overall habits.

While dating can be full of surprises, it’s important to recognize these red flags before getting too deep into something that doesn’t feel right. At the end of the day, trust your instincts — and make sure to delete those old profiles!
