5 Safety Tips Abroad: How We Almost Got Robbed 😱🇵🇭

5 Safety Tips Abroad: How We Almost Got Robbed 😱🇵🇭

Traveling is full of adventures, but sometimes, it comes with unexpected challenges. On one of our recent trips in the Philippines, Vanessa almost had her purse snatched while walking down the street.

The only reason nothing was stolen? She had both hands firmly on her clutch, and Jay acted fast to scare the two guys on the scooter away. It was a terrifying experience,  but also a valuable lesson that we want to share with all of you.

We captured the full story in our YouTube video:

5 Safety Tips for Travelers in the Philippines 🛡️

1. Wear a Crossbody or Anti-Theft Bag
Keep your bag securely across your body, not just on one shoulder. This makes it much harder for thieves to grab it and helps keep your belongings safe.

2. Don’t Carry All Your Cards or Cash Every Time
Only bring what you need for the day. Keep extra cards, cash, and important documents in a safe place like a hotel safe.

3. Stay Aware of Your Surroundings
Avoid distractions like phones or headphones in busy or unfamiliar areas. Being alert is your first line of defense.

4. Walk Confidently and Stick Together
Even in touristy areas, looking confident can deter opportunistic thieves. If possible, walk with someone you trust, it adds an extra layer of protection.

5. Avoid Flashy Displays of Wealth
Keep jewelry, expensive gadgets, and large amounts of cash out of sight. The less attention you draw, the safer you are.

Our scare in the Philippines was a stark reminder that travel isn’t always glamorous, but being prepared and aware can make all the difference.

We hope these tips help you stay safe while enjoying everything this beautiful country has to offer, beaches, markets, and unforgettable adventures included!

With love,
Vanessa & Jay 🌏💖
